Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda, is the leader of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) and has served as the Prime Minister of Nepal twice. Born in Kaski, Prachanda led the Maoist insurgency from 1996 to 2006, which aimed at establishing a people’s republic. His leadership in the decade-long conflict brought about the Comprehensive Peace Accord in 2006, leading to the eventual abolition of the monarchy and establishment of Nepal as a republic. Prachanda remains a central figure in Nepal’s political landscape, balancing his revolutionary roots with the responsibilities of governance in a democratic system.
